My guinea pig lost some hair recently. She has a small bald spot on her one side. I’ve noticed the last few days that she is not as active as she is normally. Her water bottle wasn’t working right and my husband noticed her yelping and staring at the bottle. We fixed her bottle and she drank water for nearly 5 minutes. We are very attached to this little gal as we aren’t allowed cats or dogs in our apartment. We are allowed caged animals. She is feed like a queen. She loves timothy hay. But, she isn’t eating as much. I’m concerned for her health. I had to put down a favorite hamster 2 years ago because of illness. My husband is extremely upset over his little pet. Money is not a problem. We have a good vet who specializes in small animals and is willing to work with us on payments. Should we be concerned about our little lady?
Thanks

I am 19 year old college student who really has had good health throughout my life. Back in November I was hospitalized due to heart pain, which they chalked up to being paracarditis. A few weeks later the pain went away and I was pain free until February. Since February I have had pain just under the area where my arm and chest meet on the left side. At times I also get a kind of minor numbness pain in my left arm, as well as a weird feeling as if I was excited, and need to catch my breath for a second, like 4 times a month at least. I have gone to all kinds of doctors and gotten all kinds of tests, all of which show I have perfect health and provide no answers. I’ve gotten EKGs, Ecocardio Grams, a Cat Scan or MRI forgot which one, and tried various medicines (mainly anti inflammatory because they thought it was residual inflammation which it was not). I’ve never had anything like this before, and I’m pretty sure no heart problems run in my family other than the occasional high blood pressure relative, and maybe one with a heart murmur. I do get bad cases of heart burn from time to time but have been taking Protonix for a while now to deal with that. Any thoughts, or possible answers??

From the age of 3 she was being assessed for autism. Time and again I was told by health professionals that it was behavioural problems, attachment issues etc and every time they’d phone me back and send her on for more assessments. She’s had a diagnosis for a Specific Language Disorder, her receptive and expressive language is very poor, at a 3 year age level, and is having severe difficulty learning to read and write. She is very OCD, doesn’t share (I have 2 younger children, 4 year old girl and 1 year old boy neither have any difficulties) she screams for no reason, sometimes things that shouldn’t hurt her do and other times she’s not bothered. She is absolutely obsessed with horses and cats, won’t talk to other kids she knows from school if we’re out. I was told because she initiates social interaction at school and with her siblings that she cannot be autistic, but its apparent that there’s something more than just a language disorder, I just don’t know what. I’m a single mother with no help, I have no idea what to do with her and I’m finding everything difficult. She can be very violent and is always hurting her brother and sister (and me of course) and the usual methods of discipline (corner, time out, taking toys away) only make things worse with her. I’m at a loss, does anyone have any advice???

I have a 9 year old Doxhuahua who has the soft very short hair like a dachshund. He has allergies and is on Chlorpheniramine prescribed by the veterinarian.
Yesterday I gave him a bath and used the normal hypoallergenic shampoo I use on him and he was normal. He gets the same bath with the same shampoo every week.
Today, he is covered in bald spots. His hair falling out in spots about the size of half dollars all over. There is no crust like a ringworm, there is no skin discoloration or texture difference. It looks like human alopecia.
Does anyone have any ideas? His behavior is normal. He is a very playful and energetic dog with no other health problems who had a vet check up in June. He is not overweight. We live in a city and he is an indoor dog with a 1/4 acre fenced yard not exposed to any wild animals or parasites. We have never had fleas or ticks. My other dogs are healthy.
He will see the vet on Monday unless someone has a reason which would warrant an emergency room visit.

Here is the situation, my husband is military and while he was in AIT (not living with his (ex) wife and son due to training) his son was taken away from them (at 6mnths) because of the living conditions that he was in. I mean it was disgusting. My in-laws have custody of the lil guy now and told my husband and I that when we got settled in, they wanted us to get custody of him. (that was 2 years ago) My hubby and I are very stable now with a home and financially. We notified my in-laws that we were going to start the paperwork, and they said great (that was last week) The problem with where he is living now is no better than it was when he was taken away. ie…mold all over the bathroom, dog and cat poo on the floors, sleeping in the same room as his grandparents (his bed isnt even a foot away from theirs), no adequate diet, their home is in the basement of his great grandmothers with only one window for light…I could go on and on. I have called cps on them numerous of times but they warn my in-laws when they are coming so they end up cleaning up. Anyways now they are telling us that my stepson shouldnt be taken away from them because he can do what he wants when he wants. He gets to go to bed anytime he wants, they dont make him eat so he is very under weight…so on and so forth. He has been to the hospital every 2 months for the past year because of something that a child shouldnt be getting into. My father in law is 500+ pounds and stays at home due to his health. My mother in law works 40+ hours a week so she is never home. My sister in law is 16 and pregnant living in the house. Dont get me wrong cause I dont have an issue with that but my point to that is there is a child having a child while trying to take care of a 4 year old as well all living in a 2 bedroom basement. I just dont know what to do, My husband and I are going to fight for him, but I want to know what you all think of this.
