Okay so I have a few questions, and whoever gives a good answer to all of them gets the best answer! I currently have an 8 month old Golden Retriever male named Sunny, and I love him dearly. He is neutered! For the most part he is very well behaved. He knows obedience, lots of tricks, he has no aggression at all, he doesn’t bark, he’s house-trained, etc. The only behavioral problems that he has are jumping (on people, cats, other dogs), and, we can’t leave him alone in the house because he bugs the cats, gets into stuff he shouldn’t, and jumps on the couch, which he isn’t allowed on at anytime. He is crate trained, and we have to put him in the crate when we leave the house. I think most of this is due to puppy hyper-ness, because he has never been allowed to jump, and has never been positively reinforced to do it.
I’m thinking about rescuing a second dog, but I want to know if it would be beneficial to Sunny, or detrimental. This dog is, by most standards, a “perfect” dog. She is an older dog, about 8 years old, and she is in good health. The lady that owns her has to give her away because she started a daycare in her home, and the licensing won’t let her have pets. The dog is extremely well behaved, she doesn’t bark, doesn’t jump, is extremely affectionate, gets along great with kids, dogs, and cats, and is basically one of those dream “family” dogs that everyone dreams about. And you can leave her out when you leave the house! I don’t know her name or what breed she is, because I just found out about her today. All I know is that she is a larger breed, because she’s about the same size as Sunny, who is nearly full grown.
So I want to know, what’s it like having two dogs? Is it harder, easier, or the same? I mean, I’m sure it depends on the individual dogs, but just answer in general. And I’d also like to know, with this dog being older, calm, and gentle, could she have a positive influence on Sunny? Like, could she sort of help teach him to calm down, and have good manners? I know dogs learn by example, so if Sunny sees her being good and calm, and not jumping, would he figure it out faster? We are due to have a baby in September, so I’d like Sunny to stop jumping really soon!
Just to clarify, I wouldn’t be adopting this dog solely to help Sunny, that would be ridiculous! I love animals, and this dog sounds really sweet and affectionate, which is an added bonus. Let me know what you honestly think please! Thanks!

Okay, well my mom and I were thinking about getting a kitten. I am a kid and I am quiet and gentle but would love a small kitten that would love me and follow me and act like I was it’s mother and all that, and I know that takes time and love. I was wondering a few questions.
I have been looking at some baby kittens on petfinders and things like that. I live in Ohio. If you have any infortmation about adopting only BABY KITTENS in Ohio then please let me know. Also, I had a few questions about the procedures about baby kittens.
1. They would be anywhere from 2 months to 4 months. I know that two months is a little young but there are some out there for 2 months. If I did adopt a young one like this, would there be any problems behavior or health-wise? What extra efforts would I have to put forth to take care of the baby?
2. We were wondering about the whole declawing thing. How painful is it for a cat aged 2-4 months to get a declawing? Is it as painful as people say? Also my mom and I are working and going to school all day and she is afraid that when we’re not home the kitten will scrach everything up in our house. I suggested a straching post, but she thought it might wonder of to the furniture. I told her about saying no everytime it does it or spraying it with a water bottle, and she said how would she know it wasn’t scratching when we were not home?
3. At age 2-4 months are there any health risks that we should be aware of?
4. What kind of food and how would we take care of a kitten aged 2, 3, and 4 months? Are there different procedures for each age?
5. What if they do not make bowel movements when they are supposed too at 2-4 months? For each age how would you handle that? I know for very young kittens that our only weeks old you would help them with a cotton ball or something like that before calling the vet, and yes I’m aware that if the constipation got worse we would have to call the vet.
6. Is it true that kittens can wake you up with their meowing? Where would one mostly sleep at night? If they were crying how would you calm them down considering the 3 age levels I have mentioned.
7. If there were little toys all around the house like little pieces could a little kitten that like 2-4 months come by and put it in it’s mouth and swallow and choke on it? And if so could this problem be solved by NOT having toys on the ground?
8. Let’s say we were away from the house or on vacation and we had someone come over and leave food for it (considering the age now and as it gets older). Would it be okay? Especially a baby without any attention?
Thank you for your help. Mostly likely I will be asking many more questions.

My husband had to babysit a bulldog puppy at work one day. He always was interested in the breed and fell heavily in love with this dog. I told him “maybe someday” and I started to look into them and I was told they can have health problems. How high of medical maintenance are these dogs? I think unless my husband finally lands the art job he’s looking for… he won’t be getting one. Also, what is their behavior like to other house pets such as cats, ferrets, birds?

I have been reading up on wondering what by products mean in dry or canned pet food. I have a dog and it worries me that these by products are claimed to be left overs from parts of animals not used in a slaughter house or groceries stores. Plus the added artificial flavors, vitamins, and minerals have been discovered by the agriculture department they are not even close to being suitable for a pets nutrition after doing chemical tests on dry food. To make matters worse proven tests and reports state canned food is actually euthanize dogs/cats processed with added corn/carrots/etc. Now you wonder why dog/cat food stinks when you open that bag and get that icky stinch? All and all it makes me wonder why our four legged companions are having less and less life spans than they typically average with the on going progression of diseases and cancer problems. The health problems in dogs and cats used to not be this way but it’s getting worse because of the crap that is processed in pets food. I don’t like the idea of putting food in my dogs tummy when not even able to pronounce the ingredient or understand what it is 100%.
So what is the best diet to put my dog on???

Ok tell me if I’m being unreasonable from a non-crazy cat lady point of view please. A little over a week ago I adotped what I was being told a 8month old shy cat who was in healthy condition with all of his shots. This is my first cat but I figure I’ll work with him he’s a cutie. Since getting him home I’ve realized he has a constant weepy eye with brown discharge, an upper respiratory infection, and a major attitude problem because of it. I also found out the cat was not altered but it said he was on the website and during a follow up call with the shelter the lady accidently told me the entire shelter had an upper respiratory infection going around which they neglected to tell me.
I’ve been doing all the standard things to help him (lysine +bathroom steam) and I have a vet appointment scheduled for tomorrow. The problem is he’s so scared or just stuck in his ways one day he will let me pet him another day he will let me begin to pet him then bite me and scratch my hand very hard. I can never know his mentality and it’s almost to the point where I’m scared to pet him because he may bite/scratch me with the intention of hurting.
My problem is I do not believe he is in the initial stages of a respiratory infection so there probably will be no cure. He will be a drain on my pocket and I won’t even get any love from him I’ll just be feeding cleaning up his poop and taking him to the vet his entire life.
Honeslty I’m 23/m this is my first cat and he wasn’t mean at the shelter just shy. Since getting used to me he’s become very mean and the fact that I was not told he was diseased really makes me mad because thats a huge financial difference as opposed to a healthy cat.
Given all these circumstances would it be unreasonable to return to the cat and just say sorry I didn’t know what I was getting into this cat is simply to much work for me plus I would prefer a healthy cat.
I love this cat it’s just I’m scared to pet him and I’m scared of future vet bills because after the adoption I found out the cat had been on clarimax for sometime to no prevail.
Am I a horrible person for even thinking of returning him or is it understandable given I was lied to regarding his health which is why he is shy in my opinion. Since getting him all I’ve done is worry about him getting better which I doubt now knowing he’s in later stages of a respiratory infection… I’m not even the same person because of this cat and constant worrying and I kind of want it to end.. problem being I don’t think my cats condition will end so I see no light at the end of the tunnel.
