Ok so I have a dog, and I’m not allergic to him at all when I’m around him. He spends the day within petting distance of me, and I dont sneeze, I dont cough, no runny eyes or itchy throat or nothing. When I’m around the dog I’m perfectly fine. Now my dog is not allowed in the kitchen or the bedrooms of my house. At night when I’m sleeping I’ve got this issue where it feels like my throat is closing up and I have a hard time breathing. I take allergy pills and afterwards I feel fine, but am curious as to why I am having this problem. Like I know I’m allergic to cats because whenever I’m around a cat my eyes water up, I start sneezing and my nose starts to run. But I’m in perfect health when around my dog. Does anyone know whats going on with me? Like right now its day time and I’m not having any problems breathing. So trying to figure out why at night when I’m not around the dog I am having this problem. Does this sound like a dog allergy or something else? Also if it is a dog allergy, what can I do to fix this problem without getting rid of my dog? (Not getting rid of my dog)

Hello – I’m really hoping someone can offer some insight into our cat’s recent actions… Our cat is 14 years old, and has been (Thank God) in good health thus far. But yesterday, I noticed that one of her ears had what seemed to be a massive amount of ear wax. We haven’t been very good about cleaning her ears, I admit. So this morning I decided to take some Qtips and a bit of rubbing alcohol and gently started to clean her ears. I was careful not to get too much fluid into her ears. I also used soft tissue to slowly wipe away at the dirt inside. Cybil didn’t like it but I did get a lot of gunk out of there, and am going to do her other (right) ear tomorrow. I noticed that there was some redness in a few places I had cleaned – I figured it was irritation of the skin in her ear. She didn’t eat much at lunch – and after eating she kept opening and closing her mouth with her tongue sticking in and out, as if she had something stuck in her throat. She also made that strange grinding noise that cats sometimes make – more than she usually does. I checked her ears later in the day and there is some sign of a discharge from one of the parts close to the outside of the ear that I had cleaned. She had dinner and made the grinding noise again, even retching like she was going to throw up. My husband and I are very worried about her. Does anyone have any experience with this? We don’t know if she has an ear infection, we’re thinking of taking her to the doctor as soon as we can. Is there a connection between the ear problem or my cleaning it with the grinding/retching? Okay here’s my last question – is there any safe ointment or oil or something natural and safe I can put on the inflamed skin to help her out until we see the vet? I don’t want to self-medicate her especially with stuff I don’t know about, but if there’s anything I can do to help her, I’d love to know. Thanks so much for reading…
