A series of mysterious illness and death dogs Nutro pet food. Scores of pet owners report their animals became ill while eating Nutro products, then recovered when they were switched to another brand.
At least six dogs have died in the past two months, according to an analysis of complaints to ConsumerAffairs.com. The company discounts the reports, saying they are isolated and unconfirmed; at least one Nutro employee, sickened by the company’s response, told us she resigned.
In related developments, ConsumerAffairs.com has learned:
• The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently investigated the April deaths of two dogs in Indiana . The FDA tested samples of the Nutro food those dogs ate, but did not find any toxins. No one, however, has tested the Nutro food the other dogs ate before they died;
• A pet nutrition specialist for Nutro confirmed she’s heard complaints about the company’s food making dogs and cats sick. She reported those concerns to her supervisor, but said they were ignored. She recently resigned;
• There is a shortage of some varieties of Nutro dog food. The company says this is a supply problem – not a safety or quality issue;
• Some consumers have sent their pets’ food to Nutro for testing. They have not received any results. Other pet owners plan to hire private labs to test their food and report their concerns to the FDA and the Animal Poison Control Center run by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
The six dogs that recently died include two Italian Greyhounds in Indiana , a Beagle/Whippet mix in Pennsylvania , two German Shepherd puppies in North Carolina , and a Doberman Pinscher in Texas .
The dogs’ owners all say their pets were in good health and they’re convinced that Nutro’s food is somehow connected to their animals’ deaths. Those concerns are echoed by pet owners whose dogs and cats have recently become sick after eating the company’s food.
Nutro, however, defends its products and says the food is 100 percent safe.
But scores of pet owners across the country — including longtime Nutro customers — no longer feel safe feeding this brand of food to their dogs and cats.

In your opinion, what is the best dog to have in my situation? Please read info below.?
Me and my mom just recently lost our pit bull of 15 years, sweetest dog in the world. But we don’t want a little dog, and we don’t want an aggressive ‘type’ dog. Maybe a medium or large sized sweet dog. One that can be obedient and loyal. We are stuck and don’t know what breed to pick. We are only two girls living together and cannot handle an agressive dog and can’t get home owners insurance with any of the 7 aggressive dogs. Can you please help us out , it would be much appreciated.
Additional Details
I would also like a dog with MINIMAL shedding, and a dog that will be indoors when were indoors, and will be outside when we are not home. I’d like a dog with not many health problems, and i DON’T Want a little toy dog, i wan’t a BIGto medium sized loyal dog.
HELP ME OUT PLEASEE!!!!

I used to have both a dog and a cat. Both were very healthy animals and my dog I had had for over 8 years while my cat I had only had for two. They had never had any serious health issues besides an occasional flu. No worms, absolutely nothing was wrong with these two animals. I lived though, in a different house when I had them and when me and my family moved to a new, much bigger house almost two years ago, my cat became very sick quite suddenly without warning after a long while of living in the house. He apparently was having seizures and the doctors said it was a neurological problem and could of been caused by medicine for humans. But we had always been very careful and no medicine had ever fallen to the floor with us. Well, despite attempts he became much more ill and the vets in fact gave him too high of a dosage of medicine, he eventually died we assumed of a drug overdose. He was only two years old, we mourned him and were sad for a long time. This, was in november. Now, towards the end of august my dog got this same exact seizures and she too, was told to have neurological problems. This had happened with us before with her but it wasn’t as severe and she was easily treated and better (again, this happened after we moved into the new house, her small seizures and was during the first year of living in the house). Again now it happened but much more severe and completely out of the blue. She was fine one day, healthy 8 year old maltese that acted like a puppy and the next day she was vomitting and had a flu and continued to get very bad seizures. The vets claimed there was little they could do because she was unresponsive and her brain was inflamed. She died the next day following her getting sick and my family has been very upset but we all feel that we need a new dog in order to fill the void. Theres no aniamls in the house now and its making us all very sad so we have agreed to get a puppy. Our only problem is that my whole family is very concerned that there might be something in the house, something that only our pets seem to be getting affected by. We don’t want another life short-lived as my family becomes very attached and emotional with pets so my question is, could there be anything in my house that could be causing my pets to have neurological problems or was this all bad luck and coincidence? Please answer and if there is possibly something in my house, how would I get rid of it?

I want to opolygize for this freakisly long story.
My life is absolutely terrible.
I had several health problems which lead me to be able to do nothing I like. The teachers at my school are on my case for missing so much school even when they know about my health issues, my parents want to send me to consoling.
And on top of all that, my family make my life absolute hell.
My brother is as evil as the devil! (not literally)
He randomly says something rude, he stomps through the house just to annoy me (I have anger issues as well and he takes advantage of it)
When ever hes talking to loud I tell him exactly this “can you please be quiet” he doesn’t listen, so I keep telling him, and after the 4th try I yell out “shut up” and my brother just says “nah” and I get mad and start telling him to stop being such a rude pig and my parents get on my case on how I over-reacted!!
My dad usually does nothing but when he does, he never says anything to my brother he Just keeps saying how I should over-react and that my brother wasn’t doing anything.
My mum is literally an anger freak and starts calling me an idiot for acting like a child. And she tells me to leave my brother alone.
BTW, I’m 13 and my brother is 11.
The relation ship between me and my family is horrible.
I honestly feel I’m not related and will do anything to make them feel bad for how they treat me.
But then I realize how bad I would feel, but I want them to see everything from my point of view so they realize how horrible they are.
Its mostly, no, its all because of my brother.
WIthout him everything would be fine.
He is rude, selfish, heartless. He hurts me, mentally and phisiclly, he nearly let my cat die last night when my cat got locking in his room while his collar was caught on something, when my brother realized my catw as in there, he jsut sat there and went back to playing game. I had to run like crazy down the hall to help my cat which lead me to nearly have an asthma attack (literally)
The only time i’m happy is at school and home alone with only my pets. I have honestly thought of running away but then I think that I won’t be with my pets anymore and I will eventualy run out of money.
I have even imagined me killing myself, but I would never do that but I fear I may lose control.
Please I REALLY need help, I can’t take my life, I just want to escape from my family and start over.
Please tell me what to do, I’m constantly depressed and am starting to take out my anger on my friends, I don’t want to live like this anymore!
