I’m not doing it for the money. I just want my beautiful pug dog (Omar) to have babies, because I don’t plan to have children. Am I naive? I thought that it was enough to have a purebred dog (in good health) and have a wish to breed him. Then I read out here that you have to get tons of tests done to test for hereditary problems and that you have to wait until he is two years old. I see people out on the internet advertising their dogs as studs, and the dogs are a lot younger than two years old. Average people make money off of the puppies they sell (just like the pug breeders made money by selling Donald and I Omar). Donald and I had no guarantee that Omar will not have health problems later in life. That is a chance we had to take. Why do some people think that I’m such a bad person for wanting to stud out Omar (once or twice) before getting Omar fixed? I just read many answers to previous stud questions and now I’m disheartened. Donald also wants to stud out Omar.

i really want a purebred dog and i know what kinds i am interested in. I have been doing my research and talking to people and breeders.
BUUUUUT my husband says ABSOLUTELY NOT! The last dog we had was PERFECT in my book. We got him for free on craigslist. We got him as a pup and he was smart well behaved (thanks to our training and love if i may say so) but the point is: The free dog we had had no health problem, was well natured, was stable, was beautiful and just what we wanted. But i dont think we will ever have that luck again. What are the chances?
SO my husband thinks i am reduculous because i want to drive 3 hours away and buy a purebred for $750. He says that “any ol dog will do just fine, all we have to do is be patient and keep checking craigslist till we find the right one”. okaaaaaaaayyyy………….maybe he has a point, we did find a good one before?
but i dont think we will find EXACTLY what we want in size, nature, character, coloring, healthy, ect…..i tried looking into adoption but the breed i want is no where near. and again, my husband will no drive orspend any form of money or time to go out of his way to find a dog when “there are great dogs right infront of us”. GGRRRR
So i guess what i am asking is
is he right? or am i right? should we wait until a good dog is available for free? I am not interested in competition, shows, breeding nor am i rediculously rich. I am an animal lover and i want a companion. Why do people NEED purbreds?

I was considering health. It would be awful if the havanese comes down with a genetic health problem. So responsible breeders are the best bet. On the other hand, what about animal shelters? Will most of the dogs there have health problems? Thanks!!

I recently adopted a purebred Maine Coon kitty…he is a 8-10 month male and was strictly use to his previous owner…before jumping the gun and assuming the worst I would like to know if this is a generalized problem. I have had him since Wednesday and unless he is coming out at night, I haven’t noticed him eating or using the litter box. I know that he is an EXTREMELY shy cat and I am sure that this plays a major role, but I have even tried to give him imitation crab meat and he wont budge! Are there any suggestions on how to correct this situation? Should I be concerned that this is a health problem or just typical behavior out of a really shy/scared kitty?

“Iams also buys “purebred” litters, thus encouraging the breeding of purebreds, despite the fact that such dogs and cats are more prone to suffer health problems.” http://www.iamscruelty.com/iams-feat-cag…
What do you think?
