So I foster kittens. And I have run into a problem I have never had before. I received 3 kittens from a litter. I didn’t get the entire litter as I didn’t have room, what with 2 of my own cats, plus 2 from different litters that are on their way to regaining their health and OI it’s a lot. Anyway, there are 2 girls and a boy. They’re a decent size, I’d guess 10 to 11 weeks old. Perfectly healthy and the lady brought them to me in the same carrier yesterday afternoon.
By about 10pm last night they were hissing at everything in sight, cats, people, even each other. I figured maybe I threw them into the general population too soon, so I decided to relocate them to my room. When I went to pick them all up, the older female and the male started fighting IN MY ARMS! I had to hold them both at arms length away from each other and have my husband carry the runty girl upstairs behind me. They growled at each other the whole time regardless of the distance.
They’ve been in my room the entire day and still no progress has been made. They still hiss, spit and growl anytime they come near each other by accident.
I’ve tried petting everyone together to show them that good things happen when they’re together but inevitably someone will hiss and that sets everyone else off. I’m confused because they’re all littermates and they certainly were find together in the carrier when they came here. Normally when I get litters I put them in my room and they keep together sleeping in little kitten piles, eating, playing and cuddling. The lady who brought them to me says that the 2 she took from the same litter are acting the exact same way. She said it was simply because they were spoiled and had probably been with their mother too long. I’m sure time will help but I guess I’m looking for someone else who may have had this problem.

My thinking is that each category has the potential to be broken down up to twice, yet some do not go that far. Seems a shame really as there is scope for so much more.
Health, for example, is broken down into Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Optical, Diseases & Conditions, etc, but only two of them actually go further than that. For instance, Diseases and Conditions is broke down further into Allergies, Cancer, Diabetes, etc.
Surely there is scope for the other sub categories to be broke down more. Mental Health could be broken down into a selection of the biggest mental health disorders (Depression, OCD, Bipolar, etc). I just find that Mental Health is very vague and that we would benefit being able to put our problems in more specific sub-categories.
The Pet section is broken down into into all the different pets – Dogs, Cats, Rodents, etc. But might it be an idea if, for example, the Dog section was broke down into Adult Dogs and Puppies. Similar would go for the Cat section.
I’ve always thought a Miscellaneous section would be useful too. Or would that just encourage people to not think about what catagories to put their question in?
It would also be useful if we could put each question in more than one section. Currently you have to post it twice which is annoying. Why can’t questions overlap?
Just a thought…

Hi, We have 3 female cats, Spirit 12, KoKo 6, Selkies 1 1/2. KoKo came into our lives about 6 months ago. My Brother Butch gave her up to us because he didn’t want her anymore after he got a dog. She was very overweight and lethargic when she came to us. He used to free feed her throughout the day at his house. Whenever she came into the kitchen he would give her more food. He had her on “Science Diet Adult Indoor” dry food. When we got her we fed her the same food and fed her twice a day the amount recommended on the bag for her weight. She lost weight, seemed alot healthier and very playful. We had always fed our other 2 cats Purina One-urinary tract health. We tried to get KoKo to eat the Purina One because we wanted them all on the same food, plus we don’t have alot of money. It didn’t work because KoKo refused the new food and I read that cats will starve themselves rather then eat food they don’t want. I would feed Spirit in our bedroom with the door closed because she has always been more skidish and she is older. I would feed the others in the kitchen. KoKo will eat all her food in one sitting, but Selkies nibbles throughout the day until her evening feeding. It was never a problem because KoKo didn’t like Selkies food, but in the last 2 weeks I have caught KoKo eating Selkies food she leaves in the bowl, (the food she used to not like)I put Selkies food on top of a counter in the kitchen to make it harder for KoKo to do that, but she has been relentless and I keep catching her. When Selkies goes to her food bowl there will be nothing left and KoKo is starting to the weight back again. I cannot think of another thing to do and I am starting to think we should ask my Brother to take her back, but then I feel bad about her being depressed again. But if she keeps doing this we will have no choice. What could be causing this? Is it just cat nature? All the cats gets plenty of attention and they seem to enjoy each others company to some degree. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thank you. Kathleen

I am getting a Chihuahua, not a teacup (gosh…so easy to step on!) and I was wondering if they had special illnesses or diseases that other dog breeds don’t have? If so, what are they?

Alright, so I might be a little overcautious in asking this, but is it safe to let a new puppy interact with my other pets?
The puppy will not be vaccinated or dewormed yet, but I will get the first shot done and start deworming as soon as possible. I currently own a rabbit, two rats, and a budgie. None have ever had any health problems. My rabbit has only been outside a few times. Still, is it possible/likely for any viruses to be passed between them?
To be safe, I think I will isolate the puppy in my mother’s room at first. I won’t bother introducing it to the bird, but I’d like to at least try and socialize my other pets with the puppy. Anybody have any tips on that? My rabbit and rats have been socialized together already.
And for reference, I don’t actually have the puppy yet, nor I am I one hundred percent sure I’ll be taking it. It’s a collie/Toller cross, and has already been exposed to cats, so hopefully has some sense of interacting with small animals.
