The building management always blames it on construction being done nearby or the empty lot nextdoor. It’s always something. Their solution has so far been to have the exterminator come in and throw some poison in the little packages in hidden spots and place glue traps but that does not get rid of the problem. I have complained to the super several times and he has always joked around and said that I should get a cat. I should, but I don’t want a cat right now. My mom owns the apartment and it’s a coop but I mada a complaint to the city anyway…knowing that any fine the building would get, would be paid by my mom indirectly. I have a lot of concerns with this building and when I voice them out, people get mad, including my mother. I made the complaint and someone from the board of health came by and did an inspection, the building coincidentally started a vermin control program and now they’re doing something about it. The building hires the cheapest construction company that hires

A couple months ago I bought a kitten from a supposedly upstanding breeder of exotic shorthairs. They seemed great, and even offered a one year health guarantee.
Recently (three months after I recieved the kitten) My Vet said that Charlie (the cat) was positive for FHV-1. Now, Charlie could only get this from another cat. He hasn’t been anywhere NEAR another cat since I got him. He’s indoors only, and we don’t have another cat! The Vet said that the only other way is that it had to come from the mother or somewhere in the breeder’s Cattery.
Soon after this, Charlie started showing symptoms of a whole other host of problems. Half his face became paralyzed, making him unable to blink one of his eyes and one of his ears. It makes him drool a lot too.
I tried contacting the breeder but she is not responding. Now, it’s been less than a week since my first email, but it’s still unusual for her not to respond because before the incident I would email her with kitty questions and she would respond by morning EVERY TIME.
I was thinking about if it were ever to come to me trying to take her to court to get some sort of compensation, if that’s even possible. She’s in Washington state and I’m in British Columbia, canada. I’m not familiar with legal matters at all which makes me wonder about this.
Now, if somehow I do find a way to sue her for the cost of the vet bills citing the ‘health guarantee’, would I only be able to sue as much as the kitten’s sell price? He cost me $650. The vet bills for his condition are at $500 now, and we don’t even know if he may require surgery yet which you can imagine might explode my bank.
If you have any thoughts about this situation I would be so, so greatful. My poor pumpkin is in discomfort and I want to make that breeder pay.
Here is a picture of charlie sleeping. As you can see, his eye is wide open. He can’t shut it, ever. http://img367.imageshack.us/my.php?image…

Ours are 14 going on 15 in May, they have had their share of health problems but nothing major. How long do you think they might live for?

First off, my dog eats Wellness Core so I am not aware of crappy ingredients, but all the cats I had growing up were eating Purina and lived to be around 20 years old with no health problems. My dad refuses to listen to me about trying the good stuff and keeps his dogs on Iams and Alpo (yuck) and they are FINE! They are healthy, well behaved and are playful and totally disease free.

I think the smaller breeds are more popular lately. Especially the little teacup ones you can carry around. So they may be inproperly bred or bred too quickly lately so they are ending up with more health issues.
