heres a pic of her btw:http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/sakura_angel_45/maggie-1-1.jpg
her name is Maggie.
Anyway, my dog is neither fat nor too skinny, but I feel she should have a better and healthier diet. We have dry food for her, but my mom keeps it in a bin not closed up AT ALL and yes we do have house mice and i get worried bout that problem. My mom mixes the cat food with the dog food, same brand but still, idk if thats such a good idea. ANd my mom spoils her sooo badly, she feeds her scraps from her plate whenever maggie begs. Her health isn’t that big of a problem now but i feel i should try it anyway, she doesnt like eating her dried food as much when its been uncovered for too long. We can give her a huge bowl and she will only eat like 10 pieces or less. >.< wat should we do???

I adopted a 2 year old cat from a friend… current on vaccinations, negative fecal, vet examined, spayed etc. to rule out health issues. They had her on (shudders) Farm and Fleet brand cat chow. I switched her to Wellness Core dry cat food. I gradually mixed the foods for an easier transition, unfortunately the better food is giving her diarrhea… which wouldn’t be so bad if she didn’t kind of seem to uhm.. leave ‘trails’ around the house.. =P Vet says to make sure she stays hydrated, which she is drinking and that it will just be an adjustment period to her new diet. Is there anything I can give her to help ease the diarrhea while her body adjusts?? I already know not to give pepto, kaopectate (new FDA formula is not good for cats, the OLD formula was fine but is no longer produced) or immodium. I’ve heard yogurt and canned pumpkin.. both of which seem contrary as I’ve heard to avoid dairy completely… and I know our vet said to give our dog pumpkin when he was *constipated.* I researched about the fiber in it being good to absorb the water but it seems really.. contradictory?? Anyone have any home remedies for diarrhea when the medical problems are ruled out? Thanks!

I have a litter of outdoor kittens that are all healthy except the runt which has the gooey, crusty eyes. Will boric acid take care of this problem or do I need to take it to the vet to get eye drops or something? Also I was thinking about bringing it in my house and nursing it back to health because it is also very underweight but will this infect my house cats?

I do not own a dog so I am more interested in learning about it for cats. I recently ordered Wild Kitty raw cat food and one of my cats just loves it. However, it is not sold in my area and costs a lot – up to almost $50 just to ship for the raw frozen though it is free shipping for the freeze dried.
Also – I read that the chicken kind of Wild Kitty came up positive for salmonella during a random federal inspection in February 2007 and that salmonella can have wicked effects not just on the animal(s) but on the human handling them.
So – what are the options for GOOD nutritious food, meaning healthier than store bought junk. I have read up on this and have read that pets now have more health problems due to all these carbs and all this junk in the basic pet food, that there is a ton of byproducts, like the parts of other deceased animals, including ones who died from various diseases. Any idea on healthy diets for cats that is also cost effective? Raw? Organic? Best Kind?

At 13 years old, my cat has fought urinary tract crystals and won! However, he now has to eat a special food that I buy directly from the vet. It’s expensive, but I don’t care about that I’d pay anything in the world for this guy. What I am worried about is the fact that he gets sick and vomits after every meal. I’ve talked to the vet and the cat has been in for a check up. Nothing seems to be wrong health wise, so we narrowed it down to the food causing the problem. There are other brand names (Iams, Purina (sp) One) that make a food just for Urinary Tract problems. Should I try these other brands to see if he stops getting sick? Or should I stick with the vet’s food and hope for the best?
