Question by kortez3000: Does putting used car oil on your dog’s coat make its fur grow?
Okay, I have a dog that for some reason is losing the fur on his back and it has gotten a lot worse. My neighbor tried to help me with that problem, what he did was he rubbed car oil to the dogs back and said it will help my dogs bald spot grow back. I have not seen a difference and I’m worried that it could affect the dogs health.

No. Oil is TOXIC which means that it can and will KILL your dog. Take the poor thing to a vet.

ETA: That part about him putting it on your dog apparently went over my head. Forget b***hslapping your neighbor, rub motor oil over his delicate spots and see how badly he squirms. As Nekkid Dog said, wash him immediately with the Original Dawn dish detergent and get him to the vet.

We had a cat a long time ago for several years, but we lost her 8 years ago and we recently got her back because she was microchipped. She was in terrible health, she wouldn’t eat or drink and could barely walk. She seemed to improve after a while, starting to be more alert, and she started to walk around and purr, but she still wouldn’t eat or drink. The vet couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her, first thinking it was a respiratory problem, then thinking perhaps she had a thyroid problem, and finally after a month of her not eating or drinking voluntarily, he said that if she didn’t get better soon, his best guess is that she has cancer. Well, shortly after the last vet visit, after he gave her a corticosteroid hoping to give her an appetite, she started eating voluntarily, and has improved greatly, she is running around, exploring, rubbing her face all over things, and being affectionate with family members. The only thing is, after so many days of force feeding, and all sorts of liquids and foods and medications dripping down her chin, the front of her neck is completely bald, and she is missing another patch of fur on her body too. Is that going to grow back? Is there anything we can do to help it grow back faster? Also, it’s missing right from the spot where she most likes to be petted – is it OK to pet her there, even though it’s against her bare skin?

We have a runt kitten (she’s 11 months old now) who has had multiple health problems. One of her problems is the loss of a lot of her fur, so she is frequently cold. Winter is coming up and I need to consider buying a heated pet bed for her. Has anybody else had a runt cat? Does the fur ever regrow? I always forget to ask the vet, since we have so much other health stuff to cover when I bring the kitten. Oh, and kitten is now 5.5 pounds and unlikely to get past 6 pounds ever.
