Question by Tectonic French Toast (w/syrup): I’m starting my dog on a natural diet. How many chicken bones should I give her daily for max health benefits?
I’ve also noticed that she seems to have trouble breathing after I feed her the bones. Could she be allergic to them?

NONE! never NEVER give a dog a chicken bone, they are too soft and splinter in the throat and block breathing, and can rupture the gut. NEVER give any dog a chicken bone.

I have had to take over the care and maintence of a kitten/small cat which was originally given to My next door neighbour’s Grand-children. They were feeding it boiled rice and corn flakes in milk. It was left outside in the cold (I ’savlaged’ it during a thunderstorm) in a cardboard box with a string around “It’s” neck.The thing seems to be quite happy with Me. I have not given “It” a name yet because I had no intention or keeping “It’. The trouble is that the children have returned to Their parents (not cat owners) and I have been left holding the bag, so to speak. “It” is a black and white female and seems to be growing after every meal. I just give “It” (I really will have to give “It” a name, won’t I?) water instead of milk and table scraps (mince, sausage, steak and canned sardines etc.). The thing is about 10 inches long (nose to base of the tail) and would appear to be healthy enough, albeit it always seems to be hungry. It has a ball to play with. What do I need to know?

My cat needs a diet, what do I do?

My grandmas cat just passed away from diabeites (wich i heard is caused by obeasity) so now im worried for my cats health.
My cat is 41/2 years old and weighs 13lbs.
After her kitten stage i moved into a studio apartment so she didnt have much room to excercise, she ate all the time and just slept.
well I have been living in a house for a while now and she gets to excercise and I play with her often but she is not loosing any weight. I feed her the reccomended ammount on the back of the cat food bag. She eats the purina natural cat chow in the green bag. see link for details.
what can i change her food to so she can loose weight with out feeling hungary all the time?
she does pretty good with food changes so im not too worried about her liking the food im just worried about her feeling hungary.

anyone have some suggestions?
I am looking for something that works good and does not cost too much.

I also put her food on top of my dresser so she has to jump up there to get it and jump down after
excuse me #1 answer… no she is not fine she is overweight and i dont want her to get diabeites or anyother health problems because of her obeasity.
I wish i could take back your two points…

also i have toys for her she is active like anyother cat now but i want to change the food to help her shed some pounds
I have tried wet food and she will not eat it, she only eats dry food, any suggestions?

Questions About Ferret Diet?

I have 2 ferrets and a cat. My first ferret (weaze) is 6 years old. I have had her since she was 1. I was told up until recently that feeding ferrets cat food is perfectly fine.
I know differently now. So I am looking to change their diet on a low budget. I have three different animals to feed.
The problem is I was told the older Ferret should be fed less protein now since she is over 4 years old. My other ferret (hyphy) is only 3 years old. This would require three different foods for my 3 animals. That would also require a lot of effort to feed them all separately, but thats not that big of a deal. I don’t know if I have that kind of money. I also don’t know much about what food to look for. I just got a new job so I am willing to provide for them as much as possible.
What should I do? If I can get a high quality cat food for all of them and cook my young ferret chicken to give him the protein and fat he needs would that work?
Any other ideas? I don’t want to get rid of any of my animals. I just need advice on possible solutions for this problem. I also understand that my oldest ferret has not been eating right for years so please don’t bash me. I am changing that now. She is in wonderful health and I want her to continue to be.

Does Anyone Feed Thier Cats A Raw Diet?

hi me and spike are back at the vets again today for more jabs for his pee problem he has been visiting every week since new years day apart from costing a bloody fortune hes not getting better he is on loads of stuff and still bleeding i have been reading about raw diets which cant be brought in the uk, but im sure i can find a good butcher, does anyone feed raw diets that might help my poor old cat and my wallet, (money is not the issue here my spikes health is) is it worth mentioning to my vet before he gives him more pills and potions.

Why Are Some People So Self-righteous When It Comes To Their Pet’s Diet?

I’ve seen this many times on many different forums. There always has to be a debate about what type of diet people feed their pets.
Almost everyone seems to think that their way is right. Whether it be a BARF (Bones And Raw Food), home-made food, gourmet kibble, or cheap kibble. If someone chooses to feed something else, then they aren’t a very good owner.
Are you a pet owner like this? Why do you think your pet’s diet is the right diet?
My own personal opinion: I feed my pets cheap stuff. Why? Because I have seen firsthand how in the factory the “gourmet” food goes down one conveyor belt and the “cheap” food goes down another. It is the same food in a different bag.
This is done with human food, pet food, clothes, etc. Almost all large companies put out an “expensive” brand and a “cheap” brand. It even comes in the same delivery truck to the grocery store.
My pets also get table scraps. I use my common sense when offering these. They get leftover meats and vegetables.
I think the diet that I feed my pets is just fine. I have 3 cats (10 years, 9 years, 7 months) and 1 dog (7 years). No one has had any health problems so far and they go to vet annually.

That this food is over priced, cleverly marketed low quality food??
Every time I read somebody ask “what is a good food” there are always 2-3 people who suggest Science Diet (or Iams which is also junk) – it shocks and horrifies me…
Here is the top Ingredient list from their ORIGINAL CAT FOOD
Chicken By-Product Meal, Ground Whole Grain Corn, Brewers Rice, Animal Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Corn Gluten Meal, Chicken Liver Flavor,
* By-Products are Beaks Feet Feathers and are preserved with a Chemical Pesticide Ethoxyquin which is linked to many health problems…
* Corn is a cheap filler of low digestabilty AND it appears TWICE!!!!!!
* Chicken Liver Flavor – What the heck is that???
THERE IS NO MEAT IN THIS ENTIRE FOOD – Cats are TRUE CARNIVOURS!!!!
Vets were PAID to endorse this food – Vets are PAID to sell and promote this food
Vets receive little or NO training on food brands or ingredients
so………. Why are YOU promoting it??

What Is The Best Diet To Put My Dog On? I’m Thinking Raw Food. Anyone Do That? Is It Safe?

I have been reading up on wondering what by products mean in dry or canned pet food. I have a dog and it worries me that these by products are claimed to be left overs from parts of animals not used in a slaughter house or groceries stores. Plus the added artificial flavors, vitamins, and minerals have been discovered by the agriculture department they are not even close to being suitable for a pets nutrition after doing chemical tests on dry food. To make matters worse proven tests and reports state canned food is actually euthanize dogs/cats processed with added corn/carrots/etc. Now you wonder why dog/cat food stinks when you open that bag and get that icky stinch? All and all it makes me wonder why our four legged companions are having less and less life spans than they typically average with the on going progression of diseases and cancer problems. The health problems in dogs and cats used to not be this way but it’s getting worse because of the crap that is processed in pets food. I don’t like the idea of putting food in my dogs tummy when not even able to pronounce the ingredient or understand what it is 100%.
So what is the best diet to put my dog on???

My Pom Needs A Good Diet Plan That Can Be Shared With His Sister And Our Cat, Please Help?

Due to my pom, Sam-2 years old, and his sprain. Our bet is that he is over weight and those extra pounds put too much pressure on his body, pulling somthing. Now I will stress a check up (And I think I’m winning),
but to help his weight problem, all of my family has to change..
I know WE have to stop throwing them scraps and giving them too many treats. And we are going to Wal-Mart asap to buy bowls for each along with a health bed and diet food. But our only snag is, how much do we feed a pom that age (he and his sister are the same age). And what can we do with them that helps them exercise that’s easy for us to do with them?
Plus, the same question goes for my cat. Spoiled rotten cat whos around 3 years old and eats dog food? (I know, I have strange animals)
