Cat Dental Health Question?

Hello Everyone,

I had a quick question about cat dental health.
I recently had to check my cat into boarding for a day and she had to have a vet check up before they would let her in.
The vet said that she had some dental problems and a possibly infected back tooth. Of course, this was then followed by an insanely high bill of what it would cost to clean my baby’s teeth and to take care of that tooth.
I did make the comment that my cat never seems to react in pain when I rub that side of her mouth, eats her food normally, and also chews on my blinds with that side of her mouth a lot. The vet said that cats are really tough creatures that don’t normally react in pain when they have things wrong with them like that.
I would like a second opinion on this line of thought because it just seems a little fishy to me when my cat seems just normal and fine. I do realize though she does need her teeth cleaned, so I am scheduling to take her to a low cost clinic that will take care of her for a reasonable fee.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

First Time Feline Dental Cleaning – Should I Do It?

My vet recommended a major dental cleaning for my 13 year old cat. He has obvious dental disease – but no problems eating and is in no pain. My concern is not the cost – but his age and the fact that they have to use anesthesia. He’s never been sick – thank God! – and he’s in good health (had physical yesterday). But it concerns me that they have to put him to sleep. I know the health benefits and potential risk, but I’m still concerned. Any suggestions….?

About My Cats Dental Health?

Today i took my cat to the vet as he had been bitten by another cat and i was getting it treated. While i was there, i was horrified to be told he has bad plaque build up on his very back teeth, along with gingivitis, it did look a bit nasty. The vet typed me up and estimated bill for the dental work, overnight stay of the cat and possible extractions. Now, I have absolutely no problem with paying for this and keeping my cat in the best health, but im just worried about one little thing. As the bill was pretty high, how do i know they will take the cats teeth out for the sake of it. And also, if they do remove his teeth, is he going to be able to eat cat biscuits and chew properly with a lack of teeth. I know that these vats are doing a good job but i am obviously at their mercy, knowing only the basic health of my cat.

Is It Safe For A Senior Cat To Go Through Dental Surgery?

My cat is almost 11 years old. She’s still very playful and acts silly like a big old kitten. She needs to have one of her top front fangs extracted. I was wondering, is it safe for her to go through the surgery? I don’t want anything to happen to her when they put her under anesthesia. Other than her tooth, she doesn’t have any other health problems.
