I have worked with animals a lot and I have my own opinion on this, but I’d like input from some other people. We are considering getting a dog. I have always gotten shelter pets and generally prefer mixed breeds for health and personality issues, so I’d also like to know what breed mix might be best. Here’s what the ideal dog would be: small to medium sized dog with a big dog personality, great with kids and other pets, very trainable, playful and active, but not hyper, a breed that doesn’t have a history of health problems.

I’m a nineteen year old male, have a lot of time outside of work, and spend a lot of time at home. I had a cat that was very loving but I want the affection and energy of a dog. Cat’s are very good animals but they have their time where they want to be pet, and time where they want to be left alone.
Things to be considered in picking the best breed.
* Attractiveness – I want a good looking dog.. I love the way mastiffs, husky’s, and pit bulls look. The one dog that always caught my eye was the sky blue eye huskies, that and the wolf breeds. full wolf and wolf husky.
* Doesn’t shed alot – one of the biggest complaints about the cat (was a maincoon) is that all of my black clothes came equipped with a fur coat. I want a dog that doesn’t leave large lumps of fur around my house and layers of fur on furniture.
* Very important, I want a dog that will bond strongly with me. I’m a very loving person and have alot of attention and care to give. My cat gets annoyed with me because I pet him too much. I want a companion, the kind of thing you see in movies, boy and his dog, inseparable. I want a best friend in a dog.
* able to live without a yard, I live in los angeles and would primarily keep him (or her) inside, with daily walks and of course enough exercise.
* Doesn’t get too big or cause too much of a mess (ie: mastiffs slober an insane amount – and big as in cant comfortably life in a 1-2 bedroom apartment with 1-2 people)
* Little to no known common health problems – I want a dog that will stick with me till the end, I’d hate for them to be handicapped and unable to enjoy life to the fullest with me.
* Children friendly is NOT an issue. I don’t have any children nor do I plan on doing so in the future. I DO have a cat that may move with me if the dog is compatible, otherwise it will go to my mom. So – Dogs that get along well with cats if possible.. not huge.. just would be nice.
* (not hugely important but would be a huge plus) Dog is protective of me, and is a good guard dog. Will protect me at night, or when I go out for a walk at night. Without the dog losing the lovable factor with me. I don’t want a closed off dog thats just strictly business. I want a lovable dog that just knows when you be fierce.
* Somewhat easy to train – potty training AND obedience training, as I am new to owning a dog.
* Intelligent – I want a dog who can keep up with me.
I don’t know what else I can add. Basically I’m just looking for mans best friend, my best friend. I’ve never owned a dog before but I’m a very fast learner and accelerate at everything I pick up. Also I’ve owned many smaller pets and have a lot of experience around dogs. If you could try and hit on the main points in your response it’d be super helpful. I don’t know alot about dogs and I’m looking for someone with that knowledge to help me find my dog, because I’ve looked and looked and feel lost and confused about it all. Also I would prefer the dog be young if adopted, still under 7-8 weeks old, otherwise a fresh litter. I want to be able to bond with it from a young age.
I’ll treat this dog like the most important thing in the world. I love animals very much and plan on taking excellent care of them just as I have my previous pets.
Just wanted to touch up on the most important fact. I want a dog that bonds strongly to their owner, that’s one of the most important things next to the looks.
Any feedback is appreciated, advice and research or past experienced shared would be an amazing help. I’m just here looking for help and answers.
Also whats the best way to aquire a dog? is there an online site thats best? or a place?
What’s breed does this describe? What breed would be best suited for me?
I’ll be keeping this ticket open a few weeks, I’m hoping for some good responses. Don’t let me down! I really need you guys here!

In your opinion, what is the best dog to have in my situation? Please read info below.?
Me and my mom just recently lost our pit bull of 15 years, sweetest dog in the world. But we don’t want a little dog, and we don’t want an aggressive ‘type’ dog. Maybe a medium or large sized sweet dog. One that can be obedient and loyal. We are stuck and don’t know what breed to pick. We are only two girls living together and cannot handle an agressive dog and can’t get home owners insurance with any of the 7 aggressive dogs. Can you please help us out , it would be much appreciated.
Additional Details
I would also like a dog with MINIMAL shedding, and a dog that will be indoors when were indoors, and will be outside when we are not home. I’d like a dog with not many health problems, and i DON’T Want a little toy dog, i wan’t a BIGto medium sized loyal dog.

I would like a basic package for three dogs. Every pet insurance I find, is like $16 for one dog. I need something for three that is just a basic package. My dogs don’t have any health problems. I just want it for basic check-ups
