My Mom Wants To Give My Cat Away. How Can I Stop Her?
Posted by: Alan in Cat Health Problem, tags: Away, Give, Stop, Wants
I’m 16 and I’ve had my cat for about 5 years, since she was born. I never had any health issues with her. We moved to a new home and since we moved I’ve started to have asthma and allergies. In our new apartment, we have alot of leaks and mold, so I really don’t believe my cat is the problem. When I’m around her, I don’t have allergies, but I do get allergies and asthma attacks in certain parts of the apartment (near the bathroom, where the mold is). My mom wants to get rid of the cat and she already talked to one of the neighbors (whom we know nothing about) about the cat. She says she wants to get rid of the cat because of my asthma, although I know she never liked the idea of having a cat. What can I do to stop her from giving her away? I know that my health issues can be treated, but my mom doesn’t want to look for any other possible solution.

Tell her how you feel about it directly and discuss it till the problem is resolved, just remember that she isn’t trying to get rid of the cat because she doesn’t like it, she is just worried about your wellbeing, also i really think that THESE sites will help your case A LOT:http://www.pulmonaryreviews.com/aug03/pr…http://www.webmd.com/asthma/news/2004092…

Tell your mom that you would be devastated if she gave your cat away. Try to show her that you really care about the cat. Tell your mom that you fear that you may actually be allergic to the mold. If you are having asthma attacks you should con salt with your doctor because they could become fatal.

Talk to your mom about it and tell her its the apartment. Maybe you two could come up with some ‘cleaning the apartment day’ and seeing if that helps. Tell her your situation of having the cat for so long and make note that you dont/havent sneezed when you are near her.
Good Luck!

tell her how important she is to you, and how much you love her, and tell her that your asthma isn’t going to be affected very much by the cat (b/c it won’t) and i really hope you get to keep your cat, good luck!

I feel for you, tell her if the cat can stay at a friend house or family’s house for a whole week that way she can see for her self that the cat is not the problem! Then maybe she’ll decide to keep it…………

Hide her for a couple of days at a friends house and say she disappeared, and bring her back when your mom notices that you still have allergies
note:i have tried this and it works

Cry your eyes out… tell your mum, how you feel, If that doesn’t work lock your self in your room and dont talk to your mum, the last thing your mum will want is an unhappy daughter!
Good Luck!

tell your mom to take you to the doctor to determine what is causing it before she gets rid of the cat

If you’ve never been allergic to your cat before and you are in a new apartment and you show signs and symptoms near where the mold is then I would place a good bet on the fact that you probably have allergies to the mold and mildew in the apartment. Your mom should not give away the cat. If you are being responsible and taking care of it I see no need to take such drastic measures. It is hurtful and cruel of her. First she should have you tested for allergies with an allergy/asthma doctor. I was tested with about 58 small little allergens injected under the skin. It doesnt hurt a bit. The needle used is very very fine and only goes just barely under the skin. Trust me it wont hurt you. They wait 15 minutes for the injection sites to react. The site where the injections are placed usually swell to the size of dime or nickel and then go back down to normal size. If you are allergic to one of the allergens injected the swelling will not go down. They will come in after that 15 minutes and check all the injection sites and determine what you are allergic to. Your mom should have you tested and then treat the allergies you might have. Bet you ten to one you arent allergic to your cat. Mom needs to rethink the issue. Sounds like she needs to move out of that home or have the mold and mildew issue addressed. The mold and mildew can cause health problems for both of you and can be toxic. You have a lot more going on here than just the cat issue. Mom needs to step back and look at the real picture. Best Wishes.

I totally agree with $love$ her answer makes the most sense to me. It wouldn’t be right to “hide” the cat. As you would be deceiving mom, that isn’t good. Be honest and talk to mom too. Tell her just what you wrote in your question. If kitty didn’t bother you before you moved into the new place. Then I would say that chances are it is something in the new apartment. Possibly the mold problem is affecting your asthma.
It would be a good idea too to tell who ever manages the apartment about the mold. That is their responsibility to take care of that. Mold is very dangerous to any ones health.
I hope this helps, I hope too that it works out for you too.
Good luck!
