My Cat Doesn’t Want To Jump?

Hi there,
I adopted a 5 year old cat 3 weeks ago – clean health record, no previous problems.
He loves to jump on my kitchen table and counters, which are fairly high.
About 4 days ago, he stopped jumping on the higher countertops. He’ll sit at the bottom of them as if he’s going to jump, and then he will walk away.
However, I know he CAN still jump. He can make it to my bed which is only a couple of inches lower than my counters and last night, in the middle of the night, I caught him sitting on my highest counter.
Why is he being so cautious all of the sudden?

There is a very good chance he slipped and has himself either spooked or is painful. Look and feel him over carefully, if he is tender anywhere, you may consider having a vet check him out. Sometimes they will hide for a day, have a touch of diarrhea, or turn away from their food for a spell. Since cats are such experts at hiding pain, those are the types of things you need to look for.
But chances are he will be back to his old stomping grounds in no time.

I agree more than likely something spooked him off the counter, but to be honest you’re better off if it doesn’t get up there since they do play with their poop, you could have a case of samonella in your hands if it is allowed to jump on the counters….

He might have fallen off when you did not see him, so was a bit frightened to jump for a while, sounds like he has his courage back

he prob just changed his mind my cat does it all the time stand below a surface prepares to jump then just doesent he will jump when he feels like it.

Maybe he fell while trying to jump on a counter- that would make me cautious!
