I read on websites that cats shouldnt have fish flavored food (normal cat food cans that are fish flavrored) after someone at a holistic pet store told me that. She said it causes bladder infections and other health problems. Is this true? because my cat honestly just doesnt like chicken flavor.

Hi there…generally fish flavoured food made specifically for cats would be considered fine for cats. However, cats who are prone to urinary tract disorders should avoid any fish products as it is high in phosphorous and raises the urine pH to more alkaline than acidic which is necessary in order to maintain a healthy urinary tract. Much like cranberry juice works for humans.
Tuna especially should be avoided completely as it causes a disease known as steatis (fatty liver disease). The human variety of tuna fish contains an enzyme that destroys vitamin B1 (thiamine). Cats who regularly eat tuna can develop a vitamin B1 deficiency, which results in neurological symptoms like dilated eyes, loss of equilibrium, seizures and death if this vitamin is not replaced. The scientific name of this disease is polioencephlomalacia.
Although it is high in protein, tuna lacks sufficient amounts of certain amino acids, mainly taurine, to maintain feline health. There is insufficient calcium to balance the phosphorus; the ratio in canned tuna is 1-to-14.8. This results in bone disease.

Of course then can have fish flavored food. Many cats love it and it is a very healthy food. There is some recent research that suggests too much fish can cause health problems. And many of the fish today have trace amounts of toxic heavy metals which can accumulate over the years. Also, some of the cat food makers grind up the whole fish, bones and all, which can upset mineral balances within the cat.
However, one of my cats (who died a couple of years ago) ate nothing but fish flavored food (Fancy Feast) her whole life – it was her favorite. She lived to be 21. Thats about 100 in people years.
Yes. Cats love anything with the fishy flavor. Try Aquariums or Pounce. Those are really good types of cat treats. My cat loves them!
yes your cat can have fish flovored food
All 6 of my cats love salmon or tuna flavored cat food, and none of them seem unhealthy to me. I sometimes wonder where they get all the energy from, though. Maybe I should feed them less!
I feed my cats people fish food and they are fine.
