Why Is My Dog Constantly Scratching Itself?
Posted by: Alan in Dog Health Problem, tags: Constantly, Itself, Scratching
She does not have fleas. I’ve heard diet has something to do with the health of the skin. Well, we’ve switched to a higher-end brand and the problem persists. Is it a fungus? The dog is miserable. Were she able to reach the spot I’m sure she would have nibbled herself hairless by now. Thanks in advance.

Start with a vet. Take your dog in to find out what the problem is. Yes diet could have a lot if not everything to do with it. When you change a dogs food, do it gradually. Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. “Vet approved” means they have a vet on staff to approve their product. In other words, someone paid to approve it. Same with foods most vets recommend. Salesmen “gift” vets then the vet recommends the food. Most vets are not nutritionists! Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. Wellness, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. Your dog could very well have a food allergy even to a high end dog food. Corn is the most mentioned as an allergen, but dogs can be allergic to:beef, chicken, milk, soy, whey, eggs, fish and preservatives. They can be allergic to household cleaning products. And lastly they can be allergic to all starches, like my dog, and develop a all over yeast infection that makes them itch. We used Malaseb shampoo in combination with a complete food change. We now feed fresh food only, no commercial.

It may be a rash or an allergic reaction. If it’s an outdoor dog it may be a plant it’s going near or in, or mabye it’s something in the house or a bug bite or something from outside that it ate
hope your puppy gets better- poor little thing

If you bathe a dog too much, it dries out the skin.
It could very possibly be allergies. Have you asked your vet? If not, I recommend doing so. I bet he or she will have a home remedy you could try that won’t cost you anything.
Good luck!
