Kitty Has Diarrhea. Need Help Fast!!?
Posted by: Alan in Cat Health Problem, tags: Diarrhea, Fast, Help, Kitty, Need
my cat is 8 weeks old and has just been recently adopted (less than 1 week) by my fiance and me. the shelter told us she just received her de-worming medicine and to expect some diarrhea. i have been feeding her some purina kitty food 3 times daily. she has had a mix of a super long regular “poo,” normal poo and diarrhea. she is full of energy and purrs also. my question is how long should i wait before taking her to the vet for her diarrhea problem? if she’s full of energy, then shouldn’t that correlate to good health? any answer will be greatly appreciated. thank you everyone

Because she is from a shelter, and exposed to so much in these less than Idea shelter conditions, she should see a vet now to get her off to a good start. She may get diarrhea from the meds but it is really important to have a check up and establish her with a vet.

Big problem with diarrhea — dehydration. Make sure they aren’t dehydrated. The vet visit is a good idea, he can tell if they aren’t drinking enough to compensate. You can check yourself by pinching the skin on the back of their necks — if it bounces back (much like yours would if you pinch a good chunk of skin on the back of your hand), they are fine. If the skin goes back slowly, they need more fluids. But don’t rely solely on this test — if it takes time to get an appointment, call them to get advice, and go from there.
And every cat is different, anyway. Don’t be horribly worried if they are active, but keep an eye on them. Cats seem to hide their medical issues until things are almost too late sometimes.

I think you need to take her to the vet as soon as you can get an appointment. The vet should give her a once over check anyway….then you can ask about the diarrhea.
Also, please consider a more “fiber” filled food than Purina….this will help tighten up any loose stools. The vet can recommend one for you.
