That this food is over priced, cleverly marketed low quality food??
Every time I read somebody ask “what is a good food” there are always 2-3 people who suggest Science Diet (or Iams which is also junk) – it shocks and horrifies me…
Here is the top Ingredient list from their ORIGINAL CAT FOOD
Chicken By-Product Meal, Ground Whole Grain Corn, Brewers Rice, Animal Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Corn Gluten Meal, Chicken Liver Flavor,
* By-Products are Beaks Feet Feathers and are preserved with a Chemical Pesticide Ethoxyquin which is linked to many health problems…
* Corn is a cheap filler of low digestabilty AND it appears TWICE!!!!!!
* Chicken Liver Flavor – What the heck is that???
THERE IS NO MEAT IN THIS ENTIRE FOOD – Cats are TRUE CARNIVOURS!!!!
Vets were PAID to endorse this food – Vets are PAID to sell and promote this food
Vets receive little or NO training on food brands or ingredients
so………. Why are YOU promoting it??

I sure am. I was among the ignorant until a question I asked out here got me started down the path of correct nutrition for cats. I was shocked to learn that vets aren’t necessarily the experts on cat nutrition! I mean, it just wouldn’t occur to you that they may not be qualified in this area!

I totally agree with you. Why can’t people learn to read the labels on the food they feed their cats? Manufacturers count on your NOT doing so. We are fortunate in having laws requiring that all ingredients in pet food be listed on the label in the order that they are in the food by weight. The first two ingredients should be wholesome meat, filler the third. Brown rice, millet, oats, pea are good fillers for cats and not fattening and lacking in nutrition as is corn.
There are many foods available now that meet the criteria mentioned above – some are less expensive than the SD, some are comparable in price.

I could NOT agree with you more! I would never feed my pets either of those brands. Even if Iams was not crap I would not feed it because of their animal testing practices. Both foods are essentially crap though… all fillers!

There’s an old saying ,if it isn’t broken don’t try to fix it. If some ones animal is doing well ,leave it alone. My cats eat 9 Lives. They do very well and love it. I’m not going to change it . My dogs eat Diamond Naturals and do well . I’m leaving it alone. The majority of people know there are better foods ,again if your pet is doing well ,then leave it alone. Don’t worry about what other people are feeding ,pay attention to the care of your own pet.

Because people are clueless and other people make money off of it. It makes you feel bad for the poor cats though.
