He is in otherwise perfect health, fit and agile, but he has not been eating well for the last day and has been licking his lips and nose excessively. The region controlling his range of movement in his back legs is extremely tender, and when I lifted his tail I noticed that his anus was flexing in and out and extremely small droplets of pus were falling out. This sort of a reaction leads me to believe that he has an internal problem, and the licking of the lips and nose makes me think that he was poisoned, based on past experience with that same reaction with cats. He has become despondent and lethargic. Does anyone have ideas? I know he needs to go to the vet, but its sunday and the vets are closed…not to mention that i don’t drive.

I also agree with first answer. But if you think he has been poisoned check and see if his gums are white. If so feed him a raw egg then repeat in 2 to 3 hours. It will help. Get to a vet ASAP.

I guess your opening statement is not right, he is not perfectly healthy or fit and agile. Sounds like some serious stuff going on inside of him and if you can’t get him to the vet today I would have him there first thing in the morning Monday. So why are you guessing he was poisoned? Has this happen to other cats of yours? And as for driving you can call a friend, a taxi etc.

It sounds like an abscess. Is your cat allowed outside..if so it most likely got into a fight and now has a major infection going..this is why he is lethargic and not eating well. Your cat needs medical care now! Get him to an emergency vet..almost every city has them..they are open all night, weekends, and holidays.

I agree with first answer, impacted anal gland. He needs it flushed out and then put on antibiotics. This is extremely uncomfortable for him so the sooner he sees his vet the better.

I agree with the first answer, call the vet and say its an emergency, they should take the call

GET HIM TO THE EMERGENCY VET NOW. It could be impacted anal glands or it could be something worse.

I would go to the vet immediately! Out of previous experience, my cat had almost the exact same problem, became lethargic and eventually couldn’t stand up or eat by himself. He had to be euthanized.
Turned out he had severe liver damage. I think in this case, however, I agree with the previous posters.
It is EXTREMELY important to get him to the vet. If it isn’t possible as it is Sunday, just make sure to keep in comfortable, warm and make sure he has ENOUGH fluids to take.
I suspect the licking of the nose and mouth is because of extreme pain.
Just keep him warm and keep an eye on him. Have him sleep with you. Are his eyes extremely yellow?
If so, it might indicate a liver problem.
Good luck and send him my love.
I have eleven of my own…
    Been there, done that!
