Count your blessings that you don’t have a yappy dog! This ‘problem’ is all in your head… don’t worry about it. Your pet will be just fine!

Some dogs are loudmouths, and others aren’t – it’s a personality thing, and whilst it may change in the future, it’s not actually a problem.
If you want her to bark, you could try teaching it as a command – but it’s a difficult behaviour to capture if she doesn’t ever woof! Will she bark if she hears other dogs barking? If you can ever catch her barking, you can shape the behaviour to happen on command, but if she never opens her mouth to shout, then just be grateful that your neighbours are never going to complain about the noise!

Not barking is a good thing! Probably. If she seems comfortable around other people and cats (ie not scared or aggressive) then she is taking her cue from you as her pack leader that these people are fine and you will protect her. If she barks when playing with your family then there is probably nothing wrong. I wouldn’t worry about it. My lab mix never barked at anything or anyone since I got her. She is now just over 2 year (2 years and 3months) and she just started (within the last 2 months) barking at cats and now I have to try and break this habit and it is not easy!

I agree with everyone else, count your blessings. I have one lab right now, but used to have two. They would bark at an ant outside the window for at least 5 minutes. Talk about annoying.
My female dog now that she is 2 and a half only will bark at people that come to the door and just once for a warning. I admit it is quite nice, knowing before someone even knocks, although sometimes it scares me. The worst is if i’m sitting on the couch and my dog is sitting there too, and someone comes by the door, she will jump up and knock me with her head, and it is so painful.
You could try to train her with treats when someone comes close to the door. Good luck!http://www.sportsnutblog.com

I don’t see how this is a problem unless you want her to be a guard dog? I’m quite fond of my dog not barking at anyone. Sometimes when he plays he barks, or when he feels intimiated he’ll bark, but other than that he’s quiet. I’m thankful. I hate dogs that start barking just because you’re walking by their house, I’m sure they’re owners aren’t all that please either. You should be greatful.

I used to have quiet dogs too… and than I got one that barks after that one passed on. I can only say ‘count your blessings’. I prefer the quiet, lol… But if you really want your dog to bark, you can teach him to speak on command. The easier thing you can do is let him hang out with another dog who does bark. Dogs do alot of copy behavior. I once knew someone who had a very quiet dog, and they spent the week at a friends who had a yappy dog. They never got their dog to be quiet again… he just picked that up.

She is really too young to acknowledge strangers. A dog’s protective behavior usually develops at 18-24 months. This would be the equivalent to a human maturing. Which is why we tell kids not to talk to strangers. Expect her behavior to change after she learns more about her environment.

My female poodle didn’t bark until she was almost a year old. Once she started hanging out with alot of other dogs she got the hang of it and has certainly made up for it! Run it by your vet to make sure it’s not medical but she might just be a really laid back doggie! Good Luck

your dog proudly just feels like she/he does feel the need to bark at the cat or other people because you are around i don’t see why this would be a huge dill.Don’t worry about a dog that doesn’t bark it can be a good thing.

Why solve it? Most people would kill for a dog like this! Sounds to me like you have a laid back dog with nothing to say. Maybe she’ll talk more when she gets older. For now, enjoy it while you can!

Why is this a problem?
The rest of us want quiet dogs, and you want to fix it?
It’s probably just a stage, my dog went through the same thing. Unfortunately, she barks at just about everything now!
